Sheriff Won't Seek Re-election
There will be a new Sheriff in Marinette County in 2011. Marinette County Sheriff Jim Kanikula is announcing that he will not seek another term. Kanikula served for 12 non-consecutive years as sheriff and says his last four years have been the most enjoyable. He says in that time, one of his proudest accomplishments is the educational programs implemented at the local jail. During his time in office, Sheriff Kanikula has overseen several high-profile cases, including the Niagara shooting incident in 2008 and the murder at the Peshtigo Harbor Wildlife Area in 2007.
